The automotive market continues in the green if we can see the latest figures the sector recorded growth of 3% in the first half of 2017.
More than one million registrations
The numbers are clear: more than a million sales of new cars (1,135,281 to be exact) were recorded in the first six months of 2017. This represents – neither more nor less – an increase of 3% compared to the first half of 2016 (+ 3.8% in working days).
In June alone, the CCFA saw an increase of 1.6% (+ 6.4% in working days).
Diesel vehicles soon overwhelmed
By type of engine, diesel cars continue to dominate the market with 544 001 registrations (47.92% of market share)… but for how long? Gasoline vehicles have almost caught up (47.37%). In comparison, diesel accounted for 52.81% in the same period.
And the electric cars? Despite encouraging figures, they represent only a tiny fraction of registrations (1.19%). Hybrids are a little better off (3.47%).
The second-hand market is doing well too
“Second-hand” vehicles are selling well too. Less than 3 million cars were” sold” in the first half of 2017, a growth of 1.5% compared to last year in the corresponding period.
Last June, the rise is even a little faster with + 2.6% compared to June 2016. In terms of volume, 519,070 used cars were sold.
